Looking for adventure nearby? A mere 18 miles to the east of Bridgeport you will find a gold mine of adventure in the Allegheny Mountains foothills. Tygart Lake is a 10-mile-long lake encompassing 1750 acres. Each summer, local West Virginians trek over to Grafton’s Tygart Lake State Park. There, they participate in camping, hiking, swimming, kayaking, fishing, and boating.
Adventure in aces
But now, they can add even more adventure. Tygart Lake State Park has partnered with ACE Adventure to create a water attraction. Similar to (although smaller than) Wonderland Waterpark in Oak Hill, ACE Adventure intends for water attractions to be open at the lake this summer. Although we await the release of all the details, you can stay in the know by following their facebook page here.
While plans are not yet public, according to this article in Connect Bridgeport,
“adventurists to be able to choose from morning or evening sessions or full-day passes to access the inflatable attractions.”
Our understanding is that once the ACE Adventure attractions are available at Tygart Lake, reservations will go through ACE. Details will be shared on Connect-Bridgeport when available.
And even more adventure …
In addition to the waterpark, The Taylor County Adventure Club offers “lazy river” tours. Now in its fourth year, they intend to be operational in 2021. They offer full-day and half-day tube rentals for the float. Or. you can rent a stand-up paddleboard or kayak instead. Tubes are family-friendly with cupholders and the ability to hook tubes together. There are even tubes with full bottoms for the adventuresome two-and-under crowd. According to Taylor County Adventure Club Executive Bryan Smith, tours operate Wednesday through Sunday. However, Monday or Tuesday private bookings are available through reservation. The Taylor County Adventure Club is located at Grafton City Park below Tygart Dam. Reserve a floating excursion by calling 304-709-0164.
