While in office in 1984, President Regan designated every third Sunday in July as National Ice Cream Day. That means for 2021 is it July 18, for 2022 it is July 17, and for 2023 it is July 16.
National Ice Cream Day commemorates the dessert appreciated by over 90 percent of Americans. According to many, the U.S. stills outeats the rest of the world when it comes to this frozen treat. In fact, some records claim we eat 23 gallons per year, each!!
Of course, we enjoy ice cream in many ways. Favorites in the United States include:
- Hand Churned
- Old Fashioned
- Ice Cream Bars
- Ice Cream Sandwiches
- Milkshakes
- Ice Cream Cake
- Softserve
- Frozen Custard
- Sherbet
- In cones or sundaes (with toppings)
And we don’t skimp on flavors either. You can find hundreds of flavors of ice cream from basic vanilla or chocolate, to licorice, to huckleberry, and more. And you can mix your ice cream with fruits, nuts, candies, whipped cream, and even milk.
